Palm Springs

Leandra, the orator, gave a presentation about a city in the desert of California called Palm Springs. It’s located 136 miles northeast of San Diego and 111 miles east of Los Angeles.

Three hunderd years ago some Indian people used to live in Palm Springs, which had the name “Se-Khi”. Suddenly a few Spanish explorers came to the city and renamed it “The Palm of God’s hand”, cause there was a spring with palm trees around it.
These days, Palm Spings’ population have increased to 42,000 and it’s still growing. During the summertime the climate is very hot and dry. Some days the tempreture is about 105°F!

Tourism in Switzerland

Nowadays tourism is of very great importance for Switzerland. Quite a large amount of money that the Swiss government earns is from foreigners. That’s the reason why the company “MySwitzerland.com” organizes a lot of interesting and different shows, events and other things to make the country more popular. With all these things considered, the tourists are a vital key to Switzerland’s economy.

First we will take a look at the sights in this very amazing country. For example, in the south-west the “world’s most famous” Matterhorn. It is a huge mountain, which has snow on it during the whole year. I would guess that 99% of the tourists are going to visit this sight.

Other must-sees are the wonderful cities, Luzern and Bern.

Additionally, there are some popular events which occur in these cities. Last year the European Soccer Championship took place in Basel, Berne and Zurich. A lot of people from the Netherlands, Italy, Portugal and many more, came to visit Switzerland, so at this time tourism boomed. The company, MySwitzerland.com, cleverly organized the games so that visitors could follow the games AND check out the sights. Furthermore, there was the World Ice Hockey Championship in Berne, which lured thousends of men and women all over the world.

Even if a few natives don’t like to have tourists in their country, tourism is the key to earning money for all uf us, so we have to take care of our Swiss public image! Always remember that!

The seals in La Jolla

Today we will take a look at the seals down in the ‘La Jolla Cove’.

Firstly there is a bunch of important information about these animals. 15 years ago in this small little cove there was a protected area for children to swim, called ‘The Children’s Pool’. Due to the fact that this area is safe from weaves, the seals moved in there. They have been living in this ‘Children’s Pool’ for fifteen years.

Because of the strong smell, wealthy people began to file some complaints, but most of the people want the seals to stay there. Even if the government would remove them, they wouldn’t know where to put them. Furthermore the bacteria in the water is not really healthy. So in my personal opinion, the government should biuld another ‘Children’s Pool’, and the seals should stay down in La Jolla Cove for a longer time. It is a nice sight for tourists.
